The Search for Skin Care

Several months back, I was on a search for new skincare products. My skin had gotten gotten so dull and mature-looking during my pregnancy with Cannon (he’s two now) and the year and a half of nursing him. The hormone changes caused some pretty intense changes. Not only that, but I was unsure of what skincare products were safe during pregnancy and nursing, so I basically quit using any anti-aging products I had been using prior to pregnancy. The result: I aged a ton!

In my search for new skincare products that could turn back the clock on my skin, I had a few requirements.

Requirement 1: Find skincare that was safe to use.

Jocelyn and I had worked so hard to clean up the foods we were consuming, and because our skin is our largest organ, it's important to me to use safe products. To me, this means products that contain natural ingredients and are free of harmful ingredients such as sls and sles (cheap additives used for their cleansing and foaming capabilities), synthetic dyes, and parabens and other unsafe preservatives.

Requirement 2: The skincare products needed to be affordable.

Don't get me wrong, anti-aging products are super important to me and I need ones that actually work, but I'm just not willing to break the bank to get that!

Requirement 3: The products have to do what they say they're going to do.

After weeks of searching and reading reviews, I came across InstaNaturals. These products had so many high reviews, as well as several pictures from consumers of their skin before and after. I ordered one of their products (Niacinamide for my hyperpigmentation) and gave that a try first. Instantly, I loved everything about it, from the way it smelled to the consistency and the packaging.

Slowly, I tried more and more of their products. The result? My entire skincare routine now consists of InstaNatural products (with the excepetion of one product, which I will tell you about later). Never in my life have I used all my skincare products from just one company, but I truly love these so much!

So, let's dive in and I will tell you the products I use and which ones I absolutely can't live without!

Glycolic Cleanser

Glycolic acid breaks down dulling build up, which leads to softer and brighter skin. This cleanser also helps to reduce the size of pores, signs of aging, and discoloration. This product gets really great reviews! It is not irritating, however, when I first started using it I did notice the mild effects of the glycolic acid; the slight tingling went away once I rinsed the product off. This product is to be used after removing makeup, so if you like to remove makeup and cleanse your skin in one step, this product may not be for you. You can read more about it here.

Vitamin C Serum

This serum is one of the products I absolutely couldn't live without! It smells so fresh, is lightweight, goes on smoothly, and absorbs easily. This serum works to brighten the skin and supports healthy collagen production. The result is firmer and more radiant skin. It contains hyaluronic acid which provides hydration and boosts the skin's ability to retain moisture, as well as ferulic acid, which is a powerful antioxidant used to protect the skin from new signs of aging. I ran out of this product for about a week before I got my next bottle, and I could notice a slight dulling in my skin tone without it. I think everybody needs to use a Vitamin C serum, and this one is very affordable and WORKS! Available here.

Niacinamide Serum

This was the first product I ever used from this skincare line and the reason I fell in love with the products! Niacinamide is most commonly used for acne prone skin; it works to reduce redness and irritation caused by breakouts and blemishes, and helps reduce hyperpigmentation caused by acne scars. I do not have trouble with acne, but bought it based on reviews for the way it helps to reduce hyperpigmentation by brightening discoloration. It has significantly faded my dark spots, as you can see in my before and after photo. This product also minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and strengthens the skin's natural barrier to defend against future signs of aging. This is another product that I can't live without and can be found here.

There is also a skin brightening serum that contains both Vitamin C and Niacinamide to brighten and even out skin tone. I am considering replacing my Vitamin C serum and Niacinamde serum with that one product, available here.

Eye Serum

This product uses Vitamin C, peptides and plant stem cells to brighten the eye area and to smooth and firm the skin. Caffeine and hyaluronic acid decrease the appearance of lines, puffiness, and dark circles. My biggest issue with my skin around my eyes is the crepiness underneath that has developed with age. I feel like this product has helped to soften and plump that area. Learn more about this product here.

Vitamin C Moisturizer SPF 30

Formulated to prevent signs of aging while protecting against harmful sun exposure, this vitamin C moisturizer contains niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in addition to Vitamin C. The sun protection formulation consists of zinc and titanium oxide, which are natural minerals. This moisturizer is lightweight, however I do feel like the zinc sits on top of the skin rather than getting absorbed in, leaving a slightly white cast to the skin. I have noticed this same effect with any moisturizers I’ve used containing zinc, but I feel like for my issues with hyperpigmentation and sun spots, zinc is the only ingredient that protects my skin from getting worse. I also like that this particular product contains vitamin C and niacinamide! It's available here.

Collagen Night Cream

This night cream is InstaNaturals newest product and has quickly become one of my favorites. It's one I didn't even know I needed and now I can't live without it! The product is very lightweight and absorbs easily, as well as deeply moisturizing thanks to the presence of Hyaluronic acid. It works to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and improves the radiance and elasticity for visibly younger looking skin. You can find this collagen night cream here.

Eyelash Enhancing Serum

This product has worked to lengthen and thicken my lashes - I saw results after applying this product twice a day for at least three weeks. My sister uses Rodan and Fields Lash Boost and I will say that my results do not compare to the results she has seen, but this product is significantly more affordable and has definitely improved the appearance of my lashes. The lash serum is made from natural ingredients, which makes me feel better about putting it on my lash line and so close to my eyes. I also apply it to my eyebrows and it has helped fill in the patchy areas. Find this product here.

Now, that I have covered each product and it’s benefits, read on to see how I utilize each product in my daily skincare regimen.

My Skincare Routine

Morning:

Night:

  • Apply my prescription Retin-A

Note: most people think of this product to help with acne. But it's actually a super effective anit-aging topical. It increases cell turnover and stimulates the cells that produce collagen while increasing blood flow to your skin. I use a prescription form because its stronger and more effective, but InstaNatural offers a retinol serum and retinol moisturizer that both get excellent reviews.

I know this is a pretty intense regimen and not everyone wants to spend time applying all these products. So, here are the top 3 products I would recommend for anti-aging benefits:

All the products I use (and the ones Jocelyn uses) can be found here, as well as a few of the gift sets we recommend!

I am so thankful to have found such an effective skincare line that is safe to use and priced so affordably! Have you ever tried any of these products? If so I'd love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

Xo,

Ashley
